4s exposure of comet 17P/Holmes using a conventional 135mm telephoto lens and a SBIG ST-10XME camera. With an estimated nucleus of 3.4km in diameter, the comet's recent outburst increased it's magnitude about half a million times from approx. 17mag to 2.7mag and produced a coma of about 1 Mio. km in diameter (as an analogy, this equals 70% of the suns diameter; or just compare it to the moon's distance to Earth, which is approx. 378.000km).
Hey Sugarboy ;) , i didn't take a look at your site since almost 3 weeks, but it is everytime a nice surprice to see the new fotos. i like this very much and didnt understand much of your technical komment so i need to ask: do you really take thís foto with your normal camera? not with a better one of your firma or a telescope or anything like this? i cannot understand, that such a beautiful foto could be taken so "easily". hmmmm congratulation! and greetings! :) if we didnt "see" (means read) us before chrismas: nice holidays and a lovely free time!!! Bye Nettl
